Germany managed a win over Belgium although seemed slightly vulnerable.
The European powerhouse were superb in South Africa and managed to kick-start their European campaign with a single goal win thanks to Miroslav Klose in the 53rd minute in what was his 102nd international game.

The fixture marked Laurent Blanc’s debut game as French manager and didn’t set him up with a good start, as the Group D favourites were stunned by a late Sergei Kislyak winning strike.
The 2010 World Cup runners up Holland started their European path with a stunning 5-0 win over San Marino.
The Dutch surge straight to the top of Group E thanks to a Klaas-Jan Huntelaar hat-trick capped off by a Ruud Van Nistelroy strike, which sent a message to fellow European nations.
Also netting a hat-trick was England’s Jermain Defoe, which marked the new Wembley Stadium’s first three goal serving, in England’s 4-0 victory over Bulgaria.
The English were hugely disappointing in South Africa and needed to convince fans and punters alike, which they did, so could be a nation to watch out for in the upcoming campaign.
Also booting a 4-0 win was the current World Champions Spain. It was a comfortable win for the team which saw Fernando Torres score twice, with David Villa and David Silva adding one each.
