Betting On The 2010 English Premier League Relegation Battle

April 14th, 2010

The English Barclays Premier League will come to an end on the 9th of May, and with less than a month to go, odds are hotting up as to which side will lose their prolific Premier League title and be relegated to the Championship League.

While many punters focus on the battle at the top of the table, the bottom of the ladder scramble to grasp as many points to get out of the relegation zone is as good as, if not better to wager on.

Despite upsetting the odds and overcoming Spurs to secure a place in the 2010 FA Cup Final on the 15th of May at Wembley Stadium, Portsmouth have already been relegated from the Premier League after West Ham’s win over Sunderland confirmed the drop down.

So now there is room for two more sides to get relegated, and currently topping the odds to go down alongside Pompey are Burnley at $1.10.

There is room for two more sides to get relegated, and currently topping the odds to go down alongside Pompey are Burnley at $1.10.

Currently sitting at 18th spot on the table with 27 points, Burnley have played 34 games to be on even points with Hull City who are 19th.

Hull City have a game in hand over Burnley and are therefore second in the odds at $1.33, despite Burnley’s 4-1 away win over Hull over the weekend.

These two are the safest bets for the teams to be relegated from the Premier League for 2010.

Hull City are yet to play Birmingham City, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Wigan Athletic – culminating their season against Liverpool.

In contrast, Burnley has Sunderland, Liverpool, and Birmingham rounding off their season against Spurs on the 9th of May.

West Ham United are at $4.50, and are currently four-points clear of the drop zone, however have an away game against Liverpool, Wigan Athletic, Fulham, and a home game against the in-form Manchester City to end their season.

West Ham may well be a lucrative bet, with possibly the toughest fixtures remaining in the season.

Wigan Athletic, one spot away from the bottom three, is coming into the season with odds of $6.50 to go down.

With a game in hand over West Ham, Wigan need to win that extra match to get another three points clear from the relegation zone.

They have already relegated Portsmouth, top-three Arsenal, fellow relegation rivals West Ham and Hull, and end their season at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea making up their end of season fixtures.

A lucrative wager could be on the floundering Bolton Wanderers who have lost five of their six last matches, and are five points above the relegation zone.

So to place a wager on the English Premier League relegation battle, or to check out the latest ods on offer, head to now!
