2010 A-League Grand Final Preview & Odds

March 17th, 2010

This Saturday, Melbourne will come to life as thousands of fans flock to Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium, for the highlight of the national soccer season – the 2010 A-League Grand Final.

Kicking off at 7pm, the fifth ever Grand Final will be fought between Melbourne Victory FC and Sydney FC, with the winner being crowned the Champions of the 2009/10 season.

Melbourne Victory is the favourite to win the title, going into the match at $1.61, while Sydney is at $2.20.

The strong rivalry between the two sides, due to the fact they are the two largest cities in Australia, will come to a head in Melbourne on Saturday and will once again be sure to provide some thrilling entertainment.

The two sides finished one-two on the Premiership ladder at the end of the regular season, with Sydney pipping Melbourne to the Premier post by a single point, qualifying for the AFC Champions League.

With the Victory returning to the Grand Final as reigning Champions from the 2008/9 season, they will be looking to maintain their illustrious status in Saturday’s match, and will not concede to their arch rivals easily.

Melbourne Victory is the favourite to win the title, going into the match at $1.61, while Sydney is at $2.20.

During the season, the three meets between the two sides, resulted in two wins for Sydney; one of which was a 3-0 thrashing at the Etihad Stadium despite Sydney not having the home ground advantage.  The third meet resulted in a draw.

In the semi finals, Melbourne won the first of the two matches 2-1, with the second resulting in a draw at 2-2.

So if going on the regular season performances, Sydney seems the better option – and with the slightly longer odds, would provide a more lucrative win to the willing punter.

However, the last time the sides met not resulting in a draw – Melbourne came away victorious, and therefore may provide a safe bet.

But whatever happens the match is sure to be a highly tense and passionate affair!
